WILBURTON — Eastern Oklahoma State College recently hosted a Scholars Dinner for 180 scholarship recipients for the 2019-20 academic year. The select group of scholars represented students attending classes in Wilburton, McAlester, Idabel and Antlers.
Brittany Bratcher, of Eufaula, received the Eastern Opportunity Scholarship, Audrey and Treca Balantine Scholarship.
Eastern awarded academic-based institutional scholarships and tuition waivers totaling $111,000 to 90 students, while the Eastern Development Foundation provided $245,000 in funding to 138 students. The financial assistance will be split across both semesters, assuming minimum requirements are met.
“We are so proud to provide this financial assistance to our deserving students. These funds enable our students to focus more on their education and greatly ease their debt load upon graduation," said Teresa Brady, executive director of the EOSC Development Foundation. “Thank you again to the many individuals, businesses and organizations who have made this possible.”
Brady said the Development Foundation is primarily funded by endowments. Endowments permanently supply funding, as the principle remains wholly intact and scholarships are awarded using the accrued interest. These funds are typically awarded based on students’ academic excellence, major or financial need.
