A Tahlequah woman was critically injured a single-car crash Tuesday afternoon in Cherokee County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports.
Denise Drywater, 46, was driving a 2006 Saturn southbound on Rice Road one mile north of Tahlequah when she fell asleep at approximately 1 p.m., according to the OHP report. The vehicle drifted off the road and struck a bridge abutment, pinning Drywater inside the car for 20 minutes before she was freed by Tahlequah Fire Department.
Drywater was flown to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa and admitted in critical condition, according to the report, which lists "inattention" as the cause of the crash. She was not wearing a seat belt, the report states.
