Veterans and the public are invited to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Ernest Childers VA Health Care Center on April 5 at 10 a.m. at 8921 S. Mingo Road, Tulsa.
Parking will be available in lots 9 and 11 at the Tulsa Community College Southeast Campus, 10300 E. 81st St. VA will provide shuttle transportation to and from the groundbreaking site.
Sen. James Inhofe will serve as the keynote speaker. The groundbreaking ceremony also will include a special recognition of the Ernest Childers family and music from the Tulsa Symphony’s Brass Quintet.
The Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System (EOVAHCS) awarded a contract to SASD Development Group, LLC. in October 2018 to build a 140,000-square-foot VA health care center, which will consolidate all VA outpatient services for veterans in Tulsa.
The two-story facility will include Audiology, Behavioral Health, Dental, Endoscopy, Instrument Sterilization, Processing, and Distribution Center, Laboratory, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Primary Care, Prosthetic and Sensory Aids, Rehabilitation and Recovery Center, Radiology, Specialty Care Clinic and Women’s Clinic.
The health care center will sit on 22 acres and include 945 parking spaces. The facility also will include patient registration, offices for veteran service organizations, a Veterans Canteen Service retail store and food court, VA Police operations suite, warehouse and storage, and five conference and educational rooms.
Construction of the health care center is expected to be complete in June 2021. The new facility will replace the Ernest Childers VA Outpatient Clinic, Tulsa VA Behavioral Medicine Clinic and Tulsa VA Dental Clinic.
EOVAHCS will continue to provide inpatient health care and Emergency Department services at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Muskogee.
