The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has opened an inquiry into an officer-involved shooting at the request of Wagoner Police Chief Bob Haley, according to an OSBI press release.
At about 9:45 a.m. Sunday, at 201 S. Inola Ave., a Wagoner police officer pulled over a white Chevrolet pickup for driving erratically, according to the OSBI release. Elisha Edward Kelley, 52, exited his truck and refused to follow verbal commands, the release states, then became aggressive and charged at the officer. The officer fired multiple rounds with his handgun, striking Kelley multiple times.
Kelley was transported to Wagoner Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries, according to the release.
The OSBI will investigate the incident and provide the investigation to the District Attorney’s Office to determine justification of the shooting, the release states, while the Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy.
