A 3-year-old boy was killed and three people were injured when a 17-year-old driver tried to pass a vehicle but didn’t have enough room to pass safely, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
The 3-year-old’s name was not released, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. A 13-year-old girl, whose name was not released, was taken to Saint Francis Children’s Hospital in Tulsa. Heather Yocham, 30, of Haskell, who was the driver with the children in her vehicle, was stable when taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa. The 17-year-old boy, of Haskell, whose name was not released, was treated at Saint Francis Tulsa and released, the report states.
According to OHP, the collision happened at 7:56 a.m. Monday on Oklahoma 72, approximately 1.5 miles south of Haskell in Wagoner County.
The 17-year-old was driving a 2009 GMC Sierra southbound following a truck pulling a trailer. Yocham was driving a 2006 Saturday Ion northbound. The teenager tried to pass the truck and trailer. Yocham took evasive action, swerving to the left. The GMC Sierra struck the Saturn near the passenger back door. Everyone in both vehicles were wearing seat belts. Airbags deployed in the Sierra but not the Saturn, the report states.
