Every organization and business should seriously consider taking an active shooting training class.
The Muskogee Police Department offers the Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE), which is an off-shoot of a Texas program called Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT).
The course is designed to help citizens survive in an active shooter event.
The course’s strategy uses a simple motto: avoid, deny, and defend.
Resist the urge to hide; try to get out of harm’s way. If you are forced to hide in a room, deny entry into the room. Defend yourself if confronted.
It is much more complicated than can be easily understood here.
Businesses, organizations and schools would do well to avail themselves of the expertise of the Muskogee Police Department.
God forbid any group in our community will need to use this kind of training.
But it is much better to have the training and never use it than to regret needing the training.
