My name is Tate Wallar and I’ve recently completed my first year of medical school at the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
As part of my medical career I was given the opportunity to enroll in a Summer Rural Externship. This is a two-week program designed to build student interest in rural health care.
For the past two weeks I’ve had the pleasure of working with Dr. Michael Stratton at The Children’s Clinic here in Muskogee.
Dr. Stratton has served this community as a pediatrician for 31 years. Interacting with the people of Muskogee has been a gratifying experience, and it has given me a look into what rural health care can be like. I can’t wait to return to Muskogee, and I hope to practice medicine in a rural community in the future.
