As a student at Muskogee High School and student representative, I strongly endorse passing the Student Investment Plan going to a vote Oct. 8. Right now, we face a problem at the High School and Muskogee Public Schools in general. Something that our investment plan will fix. Our current schools and facilities are badly out of date.
Our current high school was established in 1970, that’s almost half a century of no major renovation. Where the air conditioning doesn’t always work and students struggle just going through the hallway to get to class from the lack of space. It’s time to invest in our students and our school to make a safer and better Muskogee.
Something for our Roughers to claim and be proud of because Muskogee was made for more. With this investment plan, Muskogee will have a completely new modern look, where we can finally compete with other major schools of Oklahoma. There is no reason we can’t be top 5. My fellow Roughers sometimes have a mindset that we can’t compete with other bigger schools around the state but this is our chance to change the culture at Muskogee Public Schools for generations to come.
At our school, Muskogee really is changing for the better, but to really get where we want, I believe it’s essential that this plan passes. Some people have a problem with the price of our plan. But really, it’s an investment to Muskogee’s future, it’s right in the name. We’re going to have to do something about it eventually, let’s start now and build a legacy because tradition starts here.
My class and I won’t even get to experience the new Muskogee, but we’re doing it for the future. With these updated facilities, students will work and learn in a far improved environment to create a healthy and prideful school. We’ll also see more potential for growth with bigger and better facilities, technology, and security. It’s time to go the Muskogee Way and pass our Student Investment Plan. The only thing we can ask is why haven’t we done this sooner.
