USA Sports has announced that University of Central Oklahoma assistant women's basketball coach and Muskogee High grad Heather Davis will be on the coaching staff for the USA Division II team later this month, as the United States makes a two-week tour of Brazil on July 22-31.
Team USA – made up of NCAA Division II players from around the country – will face off against Sorocaba, Jundiai, Mangueira, and Fluminense during the trip. The team will also spend time exploring the rich cultural history of Brazil, including a stay at Copacabana Beach, a tour of the Christ the Redeemer statue, Sugar Loaf Mountain, the Lapa Steps, and more. The US squad will also host a youth basketball clinic while in the city of Jundiai.
Team USA will be led by Ronnie Ressel, who is currently the head coach at Missouri Southern – a fellow Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association institution.
Davis is preparing to begin her sixth season as a full-time assistant coach at Central Oklahoma. That follows two years as a graduate assistant, which followed Davis's playing career as a Broncho.
Davis came to UCO in 2010 and helped the Bronchos reach the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 that year. She started every game during her senior season the next year and averaged 10.4 points per game. Davis still remains in the UCO record book for best single-game 3-point percentage (100), which she did as a junior in a win over East Central University in 2011.
