MIDWAY 50, CAVE SPRINGS 0  (From Thursday) Quarterback Jeral Washington accounted for 139 yards of offense as completed 5 of 8 passes for 96 yards and a 40-yard touchdown to Rick Heronme and ran for 43 yards on two carries and a touchdown, while Leslie Howard made a team-high 19 tackles, three sacks and blocked a punt as the Chargers won on the mercy rule in the third quarter of the Chargers’ season opener.

Kanyen Wibben, Charlie Colburn  and Cole Miller combined for 157 yards rushing on 15 carries and five touchdowns as Midway led 24-0 after the first quarter and 44-0 at halftime. Also on defense, Dillon Stewart had 11 tackles, while Kaleel Shumate  made nine tackles, recovered two fumbles and had three sacks.

Midway travels to Gans for a 7:30 p.m. game next Friday.

SOUTH COFFEYVILLE 24, WEBBERS FALLS 12 — Josh Mason returned the opening kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown but South Coffeyville scored 24 unanswered points to pull away. 

Bobby Tripp added the Warriors’ other touchdown on a 6-yard run with about a minute to play.

HOMINY 42, HULBERT 6 — The Riders went on the road and lost. No other information was available.


Cross country

TAHLEQUAH INVITATIONAL (From Thursday) — Fort Gibson’s Caden Goss won the boys individual championship with a 4K time of 12:49.37. Tahlequah boys won the event with Bishop Kelley second. Sequoyah was fourth. Tahlequah’s Jack McKee was fourth in 13:23.56 and teammate Blaine Jones was eighth in 13:42.50. Sequoyah was led by Cody Jeanes in 19th in 14:13.99. Christopher Cumbe of Muskogee led Rougher times with 16:32.45, 47th of 89 runners. Muskogee had no team entry.

On the girls side, Sequoyah finished second behind Bishop Kelley. Tahlequah was fifth, Eufaula sixth and Fort Gibson seventh. Sequoyah’s Kayla Harp was fifth overall in 16:29.19 and Asa Robbins eighth in 16:42.98. Eufaula’s Jack Cobms was ninth in 16:44.22. Lily Couch was 23rd to lead Fort Gibson, finishing in 18:29.91. Muskogee’s AraSeli Salas ran as an individual and clocked a 22:15.98.



ROCKWOOD SUMMIT 3, MUSKOGEE 1 — Playing in the St. Louis area, the Roughers were behind when rains halted the game in the fourth inning Friday. The game will resume at 8 a.m. today, weather permitting.



OKAY TOURNAMENT –The Mustangs beat Chouteau 2-0 (25-14, 25-15) and lost to Verdigris (17-25, 25-19, 12-15).
