It’s time for the 18th annual Smallmouth Rendezvous. First Baptist Church, located at 100 Commerce Street in Tahlequah, is once again the site for this fly fishing festival.

The doors will open for the public at 9 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday. Tying demonstrations will be continuous until 4 p.m. Speakers are scheduled for both days.

Terry and Roxanne Wilson have authored five books and numerous magazine articles on fly fishing. They will be tying flies on both days of the Rendezvous. At 1 p.m. on Saturday, they will make a presentation about fly fishing for largemouth bass.

The Smallmouth Rendezvous is a fly fishing and fly tying show presented annually by the Northeastern Oklahoma Fly Fishing Club and the Native Women Fly Fishers in Tahlequah.

More than 40 fly tiers from several states including Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma are planning to participate. They will be demonstrating how to tie their favorite flies and advising how to best use them.

Many tiers will be tying flies for catching local fish such as smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and sunfish such as bluegill. In addition, there will be presentations about fly fishing from Montana to Belize.

Lessons will be available for those who want to learn to cast a fly or to tune up their technique. Rods and reels will be available for lessons or you may bring own gear to use.

For a complete schedule of speakers and times, please refer to the club website, There is no admission charge.

The public is invited and encouraged to participate.
