SAN ANTONIO — Cutting down on their turnovers, the Oklahoma Warriors defeated Dallas Assist 77-56 in its second game of the Women’s Minor League Basketball Association season on Saturday.

The Warriors had just nine turnovers in the victory after having 23 in their season opener against Topeka, Kan.

“We started off really slow, but we played Warrior ball,” coach Gena Maxwell said. “We had the girls get level-headed and start thinking by making smart decisions and smart passes. We turned it around.

“We played smart. It was a different ballgame than we played Topeka.”

Shay Holmes, a 6-foot forward from Jenks, led the Warriors with 22 points. She also had seven rebounds. Dametria Dawson added 21 points and four rebounds and Jordan Evans, a Sand Springs native and ex-Rogers State player, had 11 rebounds along with 14 points.

Oklahoma trailed 22-11 after the first quarter but led 33-32 at halftime.

The Warriors return to the court at  2 p.m. today against the San Antonio Troopers in San Antonio. The home opener is July 6 against Georgia.
