NSU men 14th in NCAA tourney

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Northeastern State is in 14th place at 30-over 606 after two rounds of the 20-school NCAA Divsion II Men’s Midwest/South Central Regional at Jefferson City (Mo.) Country Club on Tuesday. The RiverHawks are 31 strokes behind future Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Central Missouri, in  at 1-under 575. Central Oklahoma, also bound for the MIAA, is tied for second with Washburn at 590.

Central Missouri’s Jared King shot 1-under 71 and holes a one-stroke advantage over UCO’s Josh Creel. Creel closed on King with a 68. For NSU, Jacob Bartel’s 73 puts him at 4-over 148, nine strokes off the lead and tied for 22nd. Brad Hager and Casey Nelson  is next for the RiverHawks at 153 after Hater shot a 75 and Nelson a 78. A stroke back is Matt Vineer after a 75. Kyle Fouts improved five strokes to a 76 and is at 13-over 157.

The tournament concludes with 18 holes today.

NSU women  finish eighth in regional

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz.  – Northeastern State’s women finished in eighth place in the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf West Regional after shooting a 311 in the third round to total a 935 at the Wigwam Golf Course. NSU  didn’t quality for the NCAA championships.

NSU  improved by 10 strokes (317 to 307) from Sunday’s first round to Monday’s first round.

Kelsey KIrkpatrick was NSU’s top finisher with a 11-over par 227 for the three rouinds. She shot a 4-over par 76 in the final round.

Teammates Alex Koch and Danielle Wright shot identical 19-over 235s for the tourney and carded final rounds of 79. Whitney McAteer shot 77 in her final round with a 27-over 238 for the tournament and Arizona Chin carded an 86 to finish with a 39-over par 255.
